Sesame Shrimp Appetizer

This Asian-inspired appetizer is sure to entice your guests. Made with two main ingredients – Idahoan® RUSTIC Homestyle Mashed Potatoes and tail-on shrimp and seasoned with exciting flavors. Best of all – it’s easy to make!

Sesame Shrimp Appetizer

Ingredients
  • 1 bag (28 ounces) Idahoan® RUSTIC Homestyle Mashed Potatoes (Prepared according to hot water instructions)
  • 1 gallon Hot water (Water should be between 180°F to 190°F)
  • 16 pounds Tail-On Shrimp (15/16 peeled and deveined)
  • 2 gallons Hot water
  • 1 cup Chinese five spice seasoning
  • 1 cup Black sesame seeds
  • 1 quart Chili oil
Instructions
  1. Measure 1 gallon of hot, not boiling, water into a large bowl.*
  2. Add entire pouch of potatoes all at once, using a wire whip to distribute evenly and wet all potatoes. Let stand 1 minute until the potatoes are fully hydrated.
  3. Bring the 2 gallons of water to a boil, add the Chinese five spice seasoning and stir to incorporate, and add the shrimp. When the shrimp are fully cooked, remove from the poaching liquid and toss with the sesame seeds. Hold hot for assembly. If desired, the shrimp can be chilled prior to adding the sesame seeds.
  4. Place 2 ounces of mashed potatoes into a vessel and top with 3 of the shrimp. Drizzle ½ ounce of the chili oil on top.
